This was one of those times when patience paid off. The morning sun lit up the foreground but Mt. Mansfield was cloud covered. The sky was breaking up so I waited and gradually the clouds lifted from the mountain for a brief period. It had rained in the valley on the night of October 1 and there was snow at the higher elevations. Had I packed up after shooting the foreground foliage I would have missed this shot.
