Celestial Landmarks
This photo of the sky is filled with all kinds of celestial landmarks. The bright star at the top is Capella, the third brightest star in the northern hemisphere. The bright star in the lower left is Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky even though it doesn't appear as bright as Capella in this shot. The bright star above Sirius is actually the planet Jupiter. The line of three stars is Orion's belt and just below it is the Orion Nebula. The star to the right and below is Rigel the seventh brightest star in the night sky. The bright yellow star above Orion's belt is Betelgeuse, the ninth brightest star in the night sky.
This is a one exposure, 25 second shot made at the golf course at Furnace Creek in Death Valley.
