Beautiful Cascade River
I think that the Cascade River on the North Shore is the most beautiful river I've ever seen. It tumbles through ancient basalt in a series of cascades and waterfalls that are unmatched anywhere. All of it is within easy walking distance from the parking area. The color of the water comes from decaying organic material in the headwaters of the river. This is common among the North Shore rivers. I shoot this river and most flowing streams using a shutter speed of one-half second to create the silky, flowing effect. Because the Cascade river is flowing through a canyon, it rarely sees any direct sunlight which means that I can use a slow shutter speed anytime.
